Making progress

I have had a very busy work week.  Seems that's the usual these days.
I have found a little bit of time to work on some quilts.
Let's see what I was able to work on this week...

I wanted to start working on my H2H charity quilts
(click on the button to see all the details.  Not too late to sign up and
join in the fun)

I have been attracted to this fabric, A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrowsky for Moda,
since the first time I saw it.  What I didn't realize, looking at it on line was that
the print is very large, or at least larger than I'm use to working with.
I knew I had to come up with a design  where the fabric wouldn't lose it's beauty.
I found a very simple pattern on The Jolly Jabber that was perfect for big prints.

What do you think?

I think this one is for Happy Chemo.  It is so bright and colorful I think it should put a smile on someones face.  Now I just have to quilt it. Any suggestions?

I also finished the flimsy for the NOLA charity.
This is my girl quilt.  Made from the 2 charms pack of Blush
that I have been hoarding keeping for the right project.

I found this quilt on the Moda Bakeshop, All Squared Up.  I can't right now remember
who designed it and I can't seem to find my paperwork, but I will look it up again and
give proper credit when I finish it up.

I have started a quilt for a family that my sister knows.
They are having a fundraiser for their son, Joshua.
He was born without a soft spot, the condition has a medical term but I don't know what it is.
Anyway, without a soft spot his brain cannot grow.  The doctors have to make him a soft spot.  After the surgery he has to wear a specially designed helmet.

The helmet cost $12,000.00.  No kidding!

Insurance does not pay for it, so they are having a benefit dinner to raise money.
When I heard their story, I couldn't help but think of Stevie's heart surgery.
When Stevie was in the hospital I met a young couple whose baby had the same condition.
Anyway, my sister asked the mother for me, if I made her a quilt would she raffle it off at their benefit dinner.  She was delighted and even more surprised that
someone she didn't know would help.
My sister (who doesn't know anything about quilting except to cuddle under one)
 told her that
" that's what quilter do."
and I guess she is right.
I don't have enough to show right now, but
it will be coming.  They have not asked me to mention this but,
if you would like to purchase a raffle ticket
or make a donation just leave me a comment or
email me directly and I will have the information.

Stevie and I went to the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Down syndrome Assoc.

He had a lot of fun.  There were so many eggs he quit when he filled his bucket.

He also found a man that was practicing tennis swings and the man asked Stevie if he wanted to try.
A total stranger.  I never even got his name, but he gave us so much more than he will ever know.
When we left I thanked him over and over again with tears in my eyes, such kindness.
My tennis star!

It's Friday!! Whoop Whoop
strut your stuff and show off what you
have worked on.
Have a great weekend.

Hands 2 help challenge begins

is hosting the 2nd annual Hands 2 Help Quilt Challenge.
Sign up is this week.
This year there are 2 charities.
  One is the NOLA Project.
Quilts will be made for school age children
in the St Bernard Parrish that was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina.
The youth ministry at Sarah's church make several trips a
year to St Bernard Parrish and help out.
This year they will be able to take quilts to hand out
and maybe give a lost child that special hug they need.

The second charity is helping
Emily has set a goal of 1500 quilts for Happy Chemo.

You are invited to join in.  You can choose which charity
to make one or more quilts for.

My plans are to make 1 woman quilt in memory of my mother-in-law
who did not survive brain cancer and a man quilt in honor of my father
who is a cancer survivor for  Happy Chemo.
I plan on making two children quilts for the NOLA Project because
I have two children.  I have 2 boys but I plan on making 1 girl and 1 boy quilt
just because I very seldom get to make girly things.

Oh and did I mention they are some pretty awesome prizes and linky parties.
out all the details.

I had this in my stash and don't remember why I bought it, with 2 boys and all, but I'm sure at the time I had a plan.  I think a girl would look beautiful wrapped in a Blush quilt.
What about you?
Are you up for a challenge?

Thanks to everyone for leaving such sweet comments,
I tried to respond to everyone, but I think I missed a few.
I do love your comments.
Well, let's check out this week
what's been happenin' in the bonus room
studio....

I finished Braden's Dr Seuss
quilt.  Quilted with swirls and loops.
I was hoping to get a few pictures
outside, but it was raining, well
actually thunderstorms, when I
returned home this afternoon.
I had promised Stevie a steak, baked potato,
and a salad with Ranch for dinner tonight. Or is it supper? His favorite meal.
I don't even want to think how stupid
I looked going outside with an umbrella to
cook the steaks on the grill.

I have also been working on a Jinny Beyer
palette quilt, Harlequin Charm.  I'm in no
hurry, I put together a few blocks at a time.

I missed sewing with the Sewing Sisters on Saturday (say that fast three times)  My oldest son decided to put his house on the market, so I have donned my construction hat, tool belt and paint brush to help him.

Sarah at http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/
is hosting the second annual H2H (Hands to Help) charity quilt drive.  There are two charities to choose from.  Visit Sarah to get all the details.
Sign up is this Sunday, and did I mention there are some awesome sponsors with some great giveaways.
Ok I can't seem to copy the button, I'll work on that.  I've already started on my first H2H
quilt but I'll wait till Sunday to share.

Susan http://blackberrycreekquilts.blogspot.com
and two of her friends are having giveaways Visit Susan to
see progress on UFOs.

And the best part it's Friday... Whoop Whoop

This week went quite a bit better than last week.
Althought it is the first of the month, and work is always very
busy the first of the month,
I did get up off the couch and worked on a quilt for a lady at work.
Well not exactly for her, but her grandson.  This
is the fourth Dr Seuss I have made.  Still not tired of it.
Maybe this pattern, but not the fabric.

Still need to add his name in the white
section and the load it on the frame
and have a little fun.  The border is
 my favorite part.

Elizabeth over at http://opquilt.com had a thread give away.
It was a "name this thread"  contest and look what I won.
.                         This was not the thread I named but the thread I won.  I can't wait to try it out... Superior Thread, Poly Quilter.
I think I have just the quilt for this thread.  Thanks, Elizabeth, for the chance to win.

While I've been sitting  relaxing on the couch I have been drawing. Actually I have
been practicing some quilting on a sketch pad.

Getting better I think, at least you can tell what it is... I hope.
Now if only I can do the same thing on the machine.

Worked on my taxes also, and to think it's only March.
DS taxes is another thing.

Linking up with Sarah for Whoop Whoop Friday

Show what you've been working on.
