I have had a very busy work week. Seems that's the usual these days.
I have found a little bit of time to work on some quilts.
Let's see what I was able to work on this week...
I wanted to start working on my H2H charity quilts
(click on the button to see all the details. Not too late to sign up and
join in the fun)
I have been attracted to this fabric, A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrowsky for Moda,
since the first time I saw it. What I didn't realize, looking at it on line was that
the print is very large, or at least larger than I'm use to working with.
I knew I had to come up with a design where the fabric wouldn't lose it's beauty.
I found a very simple pattern on The Jolly Jabber that was perfect for big prints.
What do you think?
I think this one is for Happy Chemo. It is so bright and colorful I think it should put a smile on someones face. Now I just have to quilt it. Any suggestions?
I also finished the flimsy for the NOLA charity.
This is my girl quilt. Made from the 2 charms pack of Blush
that I have been hoarding keeping for the right project.
I found this quilt on the Moda Bakeshop, All Squared Up. I can't right now remember
who designed it and I can't seem to find my paperwork, but I will look it up again and
give proper credit when I finish it up.
I have started a quilt for a family that my sister knows.
They are having a fundraiser for their son, Joshua.
He was born without a soft spot, the condition has a medical term but I don't know what it is.
Anyway, without a soft spot his brain cannot grow. The doctors have to make him a soft spot. After the surgery he has to wear a specially designed helmet.
The helmet cost $12,000.00. No kidding!
Insurance does not pay for it, so they are having a benefit dinner to raise money.
When I heard their story, I couldn't help but think of Stevie's heart surgery.
When Stevie was in the hospital I met a young couple whose baby had the same condition.
Anyway, my sister asked the mother for me, if I made her a quilt would she raffle it off at their benefit dinner. She was delighted and even more surprised that
someone she didn't know would help.
My sister (who doesn't know anything about quilting except to cuddle under one)
told her that
" that's what quilter do."
and I guess she is right.
I don't have enough to show right now, but
it will be coming. They have not asked me to mention this but,
if you would like to purchase a raffle ticket
or make a donation just leave me a comment or
email me directly and I will have the information.
Stevie and I went to the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Down syndrome Assoc.
He also found a man that was practicing tennis swings and the man asked Stevie if he wanted to try.
A total stranger. I never even got his name, but he gave us so much more than he will ever know.
When we left I thanked him over and over again with tears in my eyes, such kindness.
