A Lovely Blog Award

nominated me for the Lovely Blog Award.
Thank you very much Sarah.
I met Sarah online several years ago.
We discovered we lived very close to one another.
She invited me (or maybe I invited myself, I don't
remember) to Sewing Saturday to help make
quilts for the quilt ministry.
 I made several quilts,
and had just bought my first longarm machine, so I quilted
several quilts when she needed me to.

The second thing I am suppose to do is tell you
seven things about myself
(this one is going to be hard)

Here goes....

1. In my real life I am Controller at a wholesale hardwood lumber
company, exporting to over 40 countries.  Have been there 25 years

2. You may already know this one.....I have 2 sons, my oldest will be 40 this year and my other son will turn 13 this year.  My youngest has Down Syndrome and has been the greatest gift from God.

3. Both of my Grandmothers quilted and 1 of my aunts quilted.  I did not get the quilting fever until all 3 had passed.

4. I made my first quilt about 24 years ago and it was bad, really really bad, trash can bad.  I didn't even realize there were patterns and books to show a person how to make a quilt. Didn't know about 1/4 seams. Bad!!

5. I have one sister.  She doesn't know how to quilt or sew and doesn't want to learn.  She will sit and listen to me talk about quilting for hours but doesn't understand a thing I say. My sister lives far away in another state, but we talk to each other every morning while I drive 45 minutes - 1 hour to work.
(hands free of course) Sometimes serious, sometimes about stupid stuff. (that might count as two things)

6. I am allergic to jewelry, well, metal.  Cannot wear jewelry or pants with metal snaps or buttons, anything with metal.  I have to make sure my glasses do not touch my face.

7. I bought my first longarm about 3 years ago.  I quilt freehand, using templates and rulers sometimes.  I have only quilted a panto 3 times.

Well, that was not as bad as I thought it would be, in fact I think I could come up with 7 more.

Now I need to nominate other blogs for the award.

Ann at http://bunkhousequilts.blogspot.com helped me so much when I first bought my first longarm.  She shares so much information and will answer just about any questions.
She also quilts a lot of Quilts of Valor tops.

Kathy at http://tamarackshack.blogspot.com
is also someone who has inspired me during
my quilting/longarm journey.

Some other people that encourage me and help in my quilting journey do not have blogs.

Thank you again Sarah for nominating me.

Sweet baby quilt

I quilted this sweet baby quilt
for a customer.
Had never quilted a candlewicking
quilt so I was stumped for a while.
I felt like the blocks should be
framed since there was no sashing.
When I framed two squares I noticed a secondary
pattern and filled the space with feathers.

I quilted around the candlewick
like I would applique. Made it pop.

This is such a sweet baby quilt.
I knew she wanted to use the quilt so I didn't
quilt any tiny background fill.

I wanted to keep it soft, not stiff.

Feathered the borders.
Hope she likes it and the baby enjoys it
for years to come.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day,
remember the soldiers who gave their lives
for us.

I was on vacation last week.
Vacation in April means a trip to Paducah.
Took a class with Jamie Wallen.
He always has the best class, learn so much and
enjoy every minute.
Stopped by my favorite booth,
Primitive Gathering.  Met Lisa and Nick.
I talked a while with
Linda Hrcka, who was helping
in the booth.
So excited to meet and talk
with them.

Beautiful quilts at the show.

Bought a ruler from Jamie
and wool at Primitive Gatherings.

The white, blue and brown I picked up in a different
booth, but I lost their card so I don't know who.
I also picked up some wide backing but I've had to move
a lot of things to a closet because of this repair work

Remember when we had the ice damn, well it is just now being repaired.  Millie is covered,
everything else in the closet or
different rooms.
Will take me longer to get everything back where it belongs.

I did get a little more finished on my flannel quilt.

Hoping I get back on it sometime this weekend.
I have a few customer quilts to work on
so I might have to take this one off for a while.

Thanks for stopping by.
