Twofer

I'm going to share a more recent quilt.
I shared this on Facebook, so you may have already seen it.

I made this applique quilt for my husband's Christmas present
in 2017.  The only thing is I never quilted it for him.
So this year I asked some of my FB followers if they thought
it was cheating to quilt this top and give
the same quilt two years in a row.
They all agreed it was not cheating, in fact some said to quilt
it, give it to him, then next year bind it and give it again. LOL

Well I didn't go that far but I did gift it two years in a row.
What quilt am I talking about????

This one.
The pattern is by Madi Hastings.
I love applique quilts,
I don't, however, like sewing down all of those pieces though.
I love quilting on my long arm.
So I attached all of those applique pieces on my long arm.

He loves his name or initial quilted.
Deer really like oak trees and acorns.

All of the quilting is hand guided on my APQS Millie.

I also had another motive to finish this one.
I wanted a wall hanging for my family room.
I just didn't tell him that's why he received his finished quilt.
But I did say,
"Oh, wouldn't that look good hanging right
there on the wall and people can see it when they first walk in"

He fell for it, so I have my wall hanging
that he thinks is his.
Don't you just love his face,
the deer's that is.

I know a lot of eye candy,
I just can't help myself.

I really like the wreath with our initial.

Love how it turned out.

He was very pleased with it and excited that I actually
finished for him.  He is still waiting on the one I made him,
in probably 2014.  I didn't like the quilt top when I finished it,
so it never got quilted.

Thanks for taking the time to visit with me.

Almost slipped up

I almost slipped up this week posting to my blog,
So here we go.
Lets look at another quilt made by my friend Paige.
Paige loves Southern Bell quilts.
She designs them herself.  At this time she does not
offer patterns for sell, but
she is working on that.
Here is the before picture, when I was coming up
with a quilting plan.

I thought the ribbon looked like an arch or harbor
surrounding her.

I wanted to add a little detail to the applique, but without over doing it.

The dress was the hardest part to come up with a
quilting plan, but when in doubt quilt feathers.

She requested her name on this one.
Right above the bow was the perfect place.

Lots and lots of background fills.  Giving a lot of texture.

Feathers all the way around the Southern Bell to "frame" her.

The corners had a large open space, so what do you do?
More feathers of course.
Plus I thought this would look pretty when she
has it on her bed.

Just a few more, because I think she turned out so pretty.

I wanted the feathers hanging down on the top of the quilt,
like Spanish Moss hanging on the trees in Savannah.

Hope you enjoyed my little Southern Bell.
Paige loved her.

Remember I am quilting full time now
and all of my quilting is freehand.
If you have a quilt top you need finished
Just let me know.
I also quilt pantos.
Have a great rest of the evening.

Let's get caught up

I don't want to overwhelm everyone,
so I will post a little bit over time,
to catch up.

I don't remember posting about these cuties.

I made these for cousins born 4 weeks apart.
They are made from their great grandfather's shirts.
I had made a memory quilt years ago for their grandfather and when cleaning my
sewing studio I found the left over shirts and had enough
to make 2 little baby quilts.

The parents loved them.

I also quilted this quilt for a customer.
Would you believe this is the only picture I took.

I did get a picture of the quilt hanging in the
Crazy Quilters show in Cookeville.

She won a HM.  The first entry for my customer and her first ribbon.

Remember I am quilting full time and
if you have a quilt that needs finishing,
panto or custom ,contact me.
Thank you for visiting,
until next time.

Helloooo is anyone here????

It has been awhile friends.
My parents have had several health issues, so I have had to help them
with doctors, hospital stays, house work, yard work, you name it.
One big thing that has happened is I left my 8 to 5 job and have
begun quilting full time.

Teaching at MQX in Sept was exciting and fun.
I had great students, which always makes teaching even better.
Sad note is MQX will not be in Springfield, IL this year.
I will have to wait and see if they pick another location.
Look at what my students accomplished in class.

Lovely group of ladies.  We made these wall hangings.
First designing and then quilting.  There was not enough time for everyone to finish but they did a great job.  The lady in the last picture forgot to change threads so hers is quilted using blue thread.

I have been busy quilting and want to share a few pictures.
My plan is to post all of the quilts I have worked on since July. This is mine and
one of my favorite quilts.
This quilt was inspired by a wall mural at a Mexican restaurant. If you click on the pictures you will see that the navy blue fabric quilted in white thread giving a lace effect.
Thus the name "Mexcian Blue Lace"
This was at the "Quilts in the Boro" quilt show this past Aug.
All of my quilting is freehand.

I post on Facebook, but plan on posting on my blog more often this year.
If you're on FB like my business page I dew quilting or send me a friend request.

If you have quilts that need to be quilted with a panto or custom please send me a message.
I would love to quilt for you.

Until tomorrow.

MQX MidWest coming up fast

Stevie and I went on a short vacation last week to visit
my sister.  Didn't do a lot, but was good to visit with her.  She moved
from Tennessee 40 years ago but I still miss her like it was yesterday.

Now I have to get to work.

Now on to things more important....
I am starting to prepare for my classes at
MQX quilt show which is in Sept at the Crown Plaza
in Springfield, IL.
www.mqxshow.com/MQX/Midwest/Classes/MidwestFaculty/DianeWingo

One that I am excited about (well I'm excited about all of them)
is my hands on longarm class
"Writing on the Wall"
We are going to make a small wall hanging, similar to this

learning how to mark and work with stencils and templates.
Some ruler work, (a ruler is not required to take the class)
I will share my rulers for those that do not have one.
We are going to work on some grid work and background fill,
and FEATHERS.
Don't know how to quilt these things?
Well that's what the class is for.
I will show you how to quilt all of this.
You can use one or more of these techniques on
every quilt you make.
Don't have a longarm?
That's okay you can do the same thing by hand
or on your domestic machine.

Please share with your blog friends, Facebook pals,
Twitter whatever you is your communication source.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. There are several nice hotel within walking distance to
the Crown Plaza
that are less expensive and just as nice.
Don't let that to keep you from coming.

I have been gone for so long I almost forgot how to blog.
A lot has happened since last year, some good,
some not so good.  I won't go into to everything but
a lot of doctors, lots of test, some surgeries,
not all me, but my parents, sister, husband.
Overwhelming at times, but enough of that, let's get to the good stuff.

So excited to be teaching at MQX Quilt Show
again this year.  Check out their website
https://www.mqxshow.com/MQX/Midwest
lots of new classes and a few offered last year.
I am teaching 5 classes this year.

Want to know how to get those pretty motifs
on your quilt top?
I have a class for that.

Want to know how to make those pretty motifs?
I have a class for that.

Want to learn how to quilt those motifs on a longarm?
Well, you are in luck, I have a  class for that too.

Never been to MQX?
It is one of the best shows.  Mary and Janet-Lee make
everyone feel welcome and just like old friends.
The quilts in the show are amazing,
the classes are wonderful,
a lot of different vendors.
I have been to several quilt shows during the years,
including AQS Paducah, and I rate this one right at the top.
Held at the Crown Plaza
( I always want to say Crown Royal, lol)
Nice hotel, nice rooms but could be a little pricey if on a budget, but there several hotels within walking/driving distance.
For several years, I stayed in a place right down the road, stayed all day at the Plaza, and slept at a different place.
Just as involved, just as fun but had a little more money for the show. Just saying.

Never entered a quilt in a show before,
this one is a good place to start.
Also Janet-Lee is obsessed
loves polka dots and there is a special challenge.

I will share some work next time and I promise it
won't be 11 months.  It will be very soon.
Thanks for sticking with me.

MIA

I know I have been a little MIA lately,
but I have been very busy finishing up my quilt for the
MQX Quilt Festival competition.
I have also been preparing for my classes that I will be teaching
at MQX.
I am very excited about all of my classes but
I am loving my hands on long arm class.
We are going to start with a 16.5 stencil
center and work out from there.
Just look at the beautiful trapunto look.
And, yes, you can do this.

You will add motifs and background fills and leave class with
a wall hanging or pillow, whichever one you decide.

I will have rulers and stencils to use in class.
All you need to bring is thread snips,
 everything else you will need
is supplied in the
class kit.

We will have fun deciding which designs you
want to use. Believe me it will be easier than you think.
The class description states confident beginner but I think any one
that can turn a machine on can quilt this wall hanging.

I will show you how to have more control of the machine
to achieve a beautiful work of art that you will be proud
to hang on your wall, place on a table, or a pillow for your bed.

Sign up quick, the spots are filling up fast.
