Yoo Hoo a finish

I'm so excited to finally be able to show this finish.

This is a wallhanging designed by Lisa Calle.
I pieced this on a retreat I went to in May.
I wanted to make it so that I could quilt it.
I used Lisa's quilt for the quilting inspiration.
Get ready for heavy picture post.
Overlook the folds and wrinkles I was excited to show you.

Learned a lot.
Ruler work, cross hatching, new fillers.

Just click on any picture to get a larger view.
There are a few wrinkles because I have carried this around all week to show anyone I could find.
I haven't seen a lot of my quilty friends, so I can't wait to share with them.

Just look at the back.
Love it.
Wall hanging is about 40X40.
Pattern by Lisa Calle.
Fabric is Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater.

Glide thread, I just love that thread.
Three different rulers, 2 circles and an arch.

This was so much fun and I learned so much.
I have plans to make another with a little different quilting but first
I need to finish up a few more customer memory quilts.

Thanks for stopping by.
I'm still having problem replying to comments, but I do read every one and
appreciate all comments

Remember I still have a HQ16 with studio frame and a lot of extras for sale, if interested leave
a comment or email me directly.

Just a little peek

I have been very busy lately.
Trying to get caught up with customer quilts and do a little of my own.
I went on a retreat with 5 friends and was able to make a wall hanging.
It was not a difficult pattern, I wanted to make it so I could quilt it.

A few quirks with the ruler work but I am very pleased at how it is turning out.
I will give all the details when I finish and can show the whole thing.
Just a few more peeks.

One of the corners.

Like I said, loving this.

Millie came home today, APQS Millie that is.
(Insert happy dance)
So if you know anyone who is looking for a
HQ16 I have one for sell.
Leave a message or email me directly and I will give you all the details.
Has been a good machine, in fact, I have thought about just keeping it
but I keep telling myself that I only need one.

Thanks for visiting and taking a look.
Have a great weekend,  I will be busy with my wallhanging and putting Millie together.

Breast Cancer ribbon wedding quilt

I was the wedding planner for a friend's wedding.
It was way more time consuming than I had thought it would be.
The wedding was beautiful, the bride was beautiful, groom was handsome, and reception was fun.
Everything went without a hitch.  What more could one ask for.
The bride wanted a memorial table for family that had passed but always remembered.
I was so busy I didn't get to take but one picture, hopefully I can get one from the photographer.
Her grandmother had breast cancer, the family had hoped that she would be able to attend the wedding, but she lost her fight in Feb.  I made my friend a wedding quilt with a breast cancer ribbon in the middle that was a part of the memorial.

The quilt is wrinkled from being folded up and in a box since the wedding but I couldn't wait to share it.
I still have to attach the binding (ran out of time).
All the grandchildren and great grandchildren called her "Pooh".
Birth date
Date of death on the other ribbon tail.

Heart in the center, 10 circles for the grandchildren, 6 center circles for her family.
Love all the feathers.

I had a lot of fun quilting this one.
The sun was setting I will haveto take more pictures with better lighting

The back is as pretty as the front.

Thanks for letting me share.
The only picture I took at the wedding
You can see just a little bit of the memorial behind the bride and the quilt right behind the preacher.

HQ16 for sale

Well I did it.  Did what you might ask.  I drove to Paducah for the quilt show in April and bought a APQS Millie.  Yea, I did.  So now I need to sell my HQ16.  If you or anyone you know have been looking for a good used quilting machine with a lot of upgrades email me and I will send you all the details.  Very good machine, has served me well.  I needed wanted a larger throat machine.

Been awhile since I have blogged, been very, very busy.  I finished and delivered Aven's
quilt, didn't take pictures.  This is the only one I have.  Turned out cute, I put her name in the large white space.

It has rained so much here it is very hard to get pictures.
Quilted two quilts for the Down syndrome Assoc., still have the binding to do.

Quilted a wall quilt for my office at work, still have binding (see a pattern here?)

I had a friend to ask me to custom quilt for her, did not get a picture of the whole quilt.
It was so big, I don't know that I could.  It was a present for her mother.
Here is just a little bit.
Turned out great and she loved it.

I made a quilt and currently quilting it for a co-worker's daughter as a wedding present.
The bride lost her grandmother to breast cancer in Feb.  They were hoping she would make it until the wedding, but she lost her battle.  My co-worker wanted something that was cancer related.
I made a pink ribbon quilt, quilting her name and dates, like the memory quilts I have made in the past.
You can see the top part of the ribbon with a heart in the middle.  Every quilt I have made recently has a deadline and this one is this Friday.  Wedding is Saturday and the quilt is going to part of the memorial table at the wedding.  Did I mention I am also the wedding planner.

Remember the quilt I was making for a man at work, he had found out he had cancer and very little could be done for him.  I was making him a quilt, a large quilt to give him warmth and comfort.
He lost his battle before I could finish his quilt.  He was one of my bosses.  I have worked for him for 23 years.  He was more that a boss, he was a friend.  When Stevie was younger I mentioned he like to watch Bonanza.  The next week he brought me a set of dvd's of every episode.  He said "now Stevie doesn't have to watch all of the commericals"  I will miss him dearly.

Throw in a family disagreement, my father getting bit by a dog and we found out my husband has more medical problems than we thought.  Now do you see why I have not have time to blog?  Missed my blogging buddies, but I do visit when I have a chance.

Thanks for visiting and listening.  Hopefully, it won't be as long next time.
Now for a picture of the bride trying on her dress after I had altered it.  She bought the dress 2 years ago (long story), and well, the dress shrunk while hanging in her closet .  I had to add a corset closing.

I don't know why I can't get the picture to rotate.  This was a try on I have tweeked it.
The "pooh" tattoo is in memory of her grandmother.

My friend loved his memory quilt.  It's kind of funny to see a grown man tear up and almost cry when they see a quilt.  When he was able to speak, he said "how did you know?" and of course my respondance was "Know what?  He said I made the two stars in the middle, representing his parents, out of their favorite shirts.  I didn't know that...but someone did... someone above...

I love making memory quilts.  I know I don't charge enough, but that's not why I do it.

This is one is on the frame now and boy did I mess up.  I had a design for the stars and then to speed everything up I was going to quilt some feathers and stippling in thread to match the background color.

Instead I got in a hurry or lost my mind temporary,  because before I knew it I was quilting everything with the darker thread.  Not happy with it but don't have time to rip it out (and don't want to)  I'm using flannel on the back so I'm hoping it will shrink enough to cover up some of my not so good, but shows up real good with contrasting thread quilting.  This is a huge quilt, 88 x 109.  It is for a friend dying of cancer that has spread to all areas of his body.  Only been given a couple of months, but he has given up so I don't know if he will even last that long.  I don't give all of my quilts a name, but I have this one...The Big Hug.  Soft with the flannel back and large quilting.  Now if I can get it finished for him to enjoy for a while.
This was the only picture I took of the whole quilt and this was before I added sashing and borders.

The stars are 24 inches.

On a happier note,  this is on the design board.
A birthday present for a little girl.  Still have to sew blocks together and add small borders and then it will have a pieced border.

That's all for now.
Work tomorrow.

Thank's for stopping by.

This close

I am this close (I know you can't see my fingers held almost together) to finishing my friend's memory quilt.  A little background...My friend at work lost his parents within 6 months of each other.  I had offered to make him a memory quilt from his mother's clothing.  He was hesitant about asking his father.  Then about six months later his father past away.  He asked me if I would make him one quilt out of both of their clothing.

Not finished completely, hopefully will finish tonight, but I can't stand it any longer.  You can click on the picture to see them better.

I always try and make a memory quilt special.  I like for them to tell a story about the person.
The two touching stars in the middle represent his parents, touching and sharing two points.
The nine smaller stars present their children (yes , nine kids)

His mother passed away in the spring.

What represents spring more than a daffodil.

His father passed away in the fall.

When the leaves fall to the ground.

They were married 56 years. They married in 1956 and was married 56 years.  I thought that was kind of special.

They were devoted Christians.

His father loved and raised horses.

They were love birds.

They were the Salyers.

I know I have to fix that "r"
The children's names are around the center of the quilt, my battery died so no more pictures outside.
The quilting showed up much better in the pictures outside.
I'll take more before I give it to him.
I am so excited for him to see it.
I think it tuned out beautiful and I hope he thinks the same.
A lot of work, thread and bobbins.

More on the details next time.

Another memory quilt

Now that January is over and the rush at work is pretty much over I can get back to what I love....
quilting and sewing and being creative.
I went on my very first retreat and had an absolutely wonderful time, so wonderful I forgot to take pictures.  I did start and finish DH Christmas quilt, still not quilted, but a flimsy.

A friend at work lost his mother and father last year within 6 months.  I offered to make him a memory quilt when his mother passed away, but he never found the right time to ask his father for some of his mother's clothes.  Then when his father passed he wanted me to make one quilt from both of their clothes.
I had a hard time coming up with any ideas, the clothes he brought was... well not the best selection for a quilt. The other problem I had was there were 9 children, an uneven number.  I like for memory quilts to have a story, so I had to come up with something.  I didn't take any pictures before I loaded it on the frame, wish I had so I could see the whole quilt while quilting.  Live and learn.

Just a few pictures of the quilting so far..

I purchased a few
of Judi's templates,
and used one on this quilt.

Well, better get back to work having fun and finish this one, I have several more to work on.
